Are creatine gummies worth it? Price per 5 g and the testing problem
Creatine gummies cost several times more per 5 g than powder, and 2024 lab tests found some had little or no creatine. What to check before you buy.
Creatine gummies are one of the most advertised supplements online. The pitch is convenience: no scoop, no gritty drink. The price is where it falls apart, and then there is the question of whether the creatine is in there at all.
Why creatine gummies are so expensive: the price per 5 g
Creatine works when you take 3–5 g a day. A typical gummy holds about 1–1.5 g, so a daily serving is three to five gummies. A tub of 90 or 120 gummies is often a month's supply or less.

The 2024 gummy tests
In 2024 NOW Foods, which runs its own testing program on products from other brands, tested creatine gummies bought online. It reported that several brands failed their label claim, and some had no measurable creatine. Other independent testers found similar results, with at least one popular gummy measuring a few milligrams of creatine per serving instead of grams. The episode got the nickname "Gummygate".
The chemistry explains part of it. Dry creatine monohydrate is very stable. In water, especially with heat and acid, creatine slowly turns into creatinine, which does nothing for you. A gummy is warm, wet and acidic when it is made. Getting grams of intact creatine into a gummy and keeping it there on a shelf is hard.
Some brands now publish batch test results or carry a third-party certificate on their gummies. That is the minimum to look for.
If you really do not want powder
- Stir it into something you already drink. Creatine has almost no taste. Warm water dissolves it faster, and micronized powder mixes more easily.
- Capsules. More expensive than powder, far cheaper than most gummies, and dry, so stability is not a question.
- A gummy with a certificate. If you buy gummies, pick one with NSF Certified for Sport, Informed Sport, or a published batch test from an independent lab, and count how many gummies make 5 g before you compare prices.
Frequently asked questions
Do creatine gummies work?
A gummy that actually contains its labeled creatine will work the same way powder does, as long as you take enough of them to reach 3–5 g a day. The problem is that some tested gummies did not contain what the label said.
How many creatine gummies equal 5 g?
Check the Supplement Facts panel for creatine per gummy. Most contain 1–1.5 g, so four or five gummies make about 5 g. The gummy label math guide walks through it.
Why are creatine gummies so expensive?
Each gummy holds only about 1–1.5 g of creatine, so 5 g takes four or five gummies, and a warm, wet gummy is harder to make and keep stable than dry powder. In our October 8, 2026 price check the cheapest gummy cost about five times the cheapest powder per 5 g of creatine ($0.83 against $0.15).
Are creatine gummies safe?
The issue found in testing was missing creatine, not a dangerous ingredient. Gummies do add sugar or sugar alcohols, and they look like candy, so keep them away from children.
